Ask Maps comes to Malaysia

Ask Maps is Google Maps’ biggest transformation in over a decade. By bringing Gemini capabilities together with the world’s freshest map, we’ve made it easier than ever to get answers to real-world questions.

We’ve been thrilled to see how Ask Maps is helping people use Maps in entirely new ways from finding a restaurant where you can actually hear each other talk, to mapping out a scenic three-hour motorcycle ride. Building on this, we’re now making Ask Maps even more helpful with new agentic capabilities, real-time information. We’re also expanding it to over 160 new countries and territories, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, and New Zealand.

Order food, find the perfect hotel, and discover events

Ask Maps can now handle complex, multi-step tasks for you using new agentic capabilities. Say you want to order takeout before leaving the office: just ask Maps to “order spicy pad kee mao with seafood for me to pick up on my way home.” It’ll find open restaurants along your route that serve what you're craving, and can even consider things like your saved places or specific dietary needs. Once you select a restaurant, Ask Maps automatically adds your dishes directly to your cart so you can easily review and complete your order. This is possible thanks to partners like Square, Toast, and Uber Eats - we’ll continue working with these partners to evolve these experiences as we co-develop the Universal Commerce Protocol for Food.

With Ask Maps, you can also quickly discover the latest information about hotels and local events. Ask for what you need: ““For next week’s conference in downtown Miami, find me a decently priced, top-rated hotel with an artsy vibe, within walking distance from a gym and restaurants.” Ask Maps compares real-time prices and checks availability for you so you can find the right spot. And if you need ideas for what to do nearby, Ask Maps will show you everything from concerts to comedy shows, complete with links for tickets.

Get trusted, real-time information instantly

People already rely on Google Maps for up-to-date, real-world information. Now, Ask Maps is making this info even easier to access with a new live transit board that updates automatically. So if you ask,  “Is there a ferry to get to Taronga Zoo with views of the Opera House? When is the next one coming?" you’ll see all of your options at a glance, including live delay alerts. If you're planning to drive instead, Ask Maps will tell you about real-time disruptions along your route like a crash or construction. Want to beat the crowds? Just ask Maps how busy a place is right now so you can time your arrival perfectly.

Contribute map updates and share tips conversationally

Insights from over 500 million contributors play a big role in keeping Maps fresh and helpful, and now we’re making it simpler to share updates. You can suggest edits conversationally, right from Ask Maps and the Contribute tab. If you notice a store’s hours have changed, tap the "..." icon in Ask Maps and select “update a place” to make a conversational update. As always, Maps systems review suggested edits for accuracy, and won’t post suggestions that violate our policies. You can even upload a photo of a storefront sign, Maps will detect the new hours from the image and confirm with you before submitting your suggestion. Beyond edits, you can share insider tips by saying something like, “Try asking the owner for personal styling advice.”

Real-time information, more personalized responses and remembering past conversations in Ask Maps are rolling out now everywhere Ask Maps is available. Food ordering, discovering hotels and events, in addition to conversational contributions are rolling out now in the U.S., with more countries to come over time. With these new updates, Ask Maps is ready to help you tackle whatever the day throws your way.
